ENFPs of the world, unite!!!

8:49 PM

O.k. so is there anything more frustrating than having an entire blog post, pictures and all, all ready to post and then something goes wrong and you lose it all?   Turns out there are more frustrating things...that happening TWICE and then blogger not letting you post anything for 3 days!  Arrrggggh.

The thing that really makes me sad?  I'm sure that everyone who knows me was thinking, "Posting every day in September for Blogtember?  Yeah, like she will ever keep that up."  But I really was.  I was determined to, I had put my mind to it, and I was well on my way to posting on schedule on Monday night and then...boom.  Blogger revolted.  So, here I am and it's Wednesday night, and I hardly feel like catching up right now.  So I guess I'll just post about Monday's prompt, and we'll see how it goes from here.

The Blogtember prompt for Monday told us to take this survey and respond to our results.  This sort of stuff always fascinates me, and I find it a bit relieving to have a "diagnosis" of sorts on my personality traits and what makes me do the things that I do.  Of course it is not a hall pass for allowing yourself to be irresponsible, jealous, late all the time, or any other quirks of your personality.  But admitting is the first step, and so when I have terms to put to the things that I do, it helps me work on it from there.

I took the test and was given the title of ENFP, (Extroverted/Intuitive/Feeling/Perceiving).  It says that,  "ENFPs are both "idea"-people and "people"-people, who see everyone and everything as part of a cosmic whole. They want to both help and to be liked and admired by other people, on both an individual and a humanitarian level. This is rarely a problem for the ENFP, as they are outgoing and warm, and genuinely like people. Some ENFPs have a great deal of zany charm, which can ingratiate them to more stodgy types in spite of their unconventionality."

This next one just couldn't be truer:
"ENFPs often have strong, if sometimes surprising, values and viewpoints. They tend to try to use their social skills and contacts to persuade others gently (though enthusiastically) of the rightness of these views; this sometimes results in the ENFP neglecting their nearest and dearest while caught up their efforts to change the world."

I kid you not, I can be in a discussion with someone about something I didn't even REALIZE I had a opinion about, and it won't take long before you could cut the tension with a knife.  Sometimes I have no idea where my strong opinions even come from in the first place, and beyond that, why I feel the need to convert that poor soul to my way of thinking before I leave the room!  (Lindsay, if you're reading this, I only have two words...movie choices.  LOL!)

I had to go old school and throw in a few of these (that I also stole from Janene....you have the best golden oldies!!) because this group of women knows me better than just about anyone else.  And only they will recognize some of the true humor in this whole personality test situation.  Because more often than not, it just hits the nail on the head.

"ENFPs are also a major asset in brainstorming sessions; follow-through on projects can be a problem, however. ENFPs do get distracted, especially if another interesting issue comes along. They also tend towards procrastination, and dislike performing small, uninteresting tasks."

I don't even know where to start with this one. I love it where it talks about getting distracted.  Oh look, a squirrel!  And TEND towards procrastination?  Sure, if your definition of 'tend' means "most definitely, certainly, almost always and without ever achieving a different outcome".

"For some ENFPs, relationships can be seriously tested by their short attention spans and emotional needs. They are easily intrigued and distracted by new friends and acquaintances, forgetting their older and more familiar emotional ties for long stretches at a time."

Ouch. Ouch. OUCH. My toes are getting so sore. Don't get me wrong, I am thankful for the gift of making new friendships very quickly, but I desperately want to learn to improve at maintaining old friendships.  In my childhood/teenage years I let go of some kindred spirits, and I will always regret losing those friendships.

"Intuition leans heavily on feeling for meaning and focus. Its best patterns reflect the interesting points of people, giving rise to caricatures of manner, speech and expression."

Hmmm, I just don't know, do you think I'm expressive much? ;)

"ENFPs can be the warmest, kindest, and most sympathetic of mates; affectionate, demonstrative, and spontaneous. Many in relationships with an ENFP literally say, "They light up my life." But there is usually a trade-off: the partner must be willing to deal with the practical and financial aspects of the relationship, and the ENFP must be allowed the freedom to follow their latest path, whatever that entails."

Thank-you, thank-you Jesus for creating Randy to have such a head for numbers, money, future plans, and common sense.  Where would I be without him??  You truly knew what you were doing when you brought this duo together.  Oh and about those paths that ENFPs follow at random?  Can you just please make sure that my wild bunny trails keep to the straight and narrow?  Thank-you.  Amen and amen.

I could go on and on, but we are out of time.  I'll leave you with these gems:

Famous ENFPs:
Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain)
Meg Ryan
Will Smith
James Dobson
Sandra Bullock
Robin Williams
Theodor "Dr." Seuss Geisel
Paul Harvey

One last thing!!!  And really, it's the least you could do after I went to all the excrutiating trouble to get this thing to post.....take the survey and leave a comment with your results!  I eat this stuff up.   I'd love to see what you all are!

O.k. that is all for now.

  1. I am an ESFJ...and yes, it really is a true description of who I am; some of the description I like, some not so much :)

  3. How interesting, I also got ENFP.

I usually have a lot of fun taking personality tests, but I don't like reading the results. I always feel like saying, "well who are YOU to tell ME what I am like?"

I also feel "wrong" in some way if I don't feel like my actual personality matches up to the one I'm given.

I did find it interesting, though, that the types of career choices I've been considering all showed up in the "Career Choices For Your Type" section. That was validating.

  4. So I some how missed this post when you posted it, but it showed up in the "you might also like" section. I work at a counseling center, and the Myers-Briggs is something the counselors give to a lot of their clients. And our directors are really into having all the staff members take it, and they are always pointing out things like, "Oh that's the "J" in you." It's a fun test. Anyhow, I was glad to read this post and get a little more insight into who you are. I am an ISFJ, by the way. Keep up the good work!- Amanda Miller
