Valentine's notes.

Dear Randy,
Jocelyn,
Charlotte,.....will you be my Valentines?

I am so beyond blessed to be a part of your lives.  Wife to one, mother to two, but the biggest fan of all three.  I will always have your back.  You can count on me.

Who am I that I am so lucky to call you three my Valentines?  Of course it doesn't always feel that way every day.  We have our ups and downs.  After all, you're not perfect.  But then, neither am I.  So I'd say we make a pretty good team.

Girls, I am just delighted to see your love for each other slowly start to develop more and more.  It's a diamond-in-the-rough kind of love, but it's there and it's real.  I know that it will continue to grow into something powerful and unstoppable, and I can't wait to see the amazing, kindred spirit friendship that will evolve from it.

Charli, you are not your sister.  You are your own person, with such a big, charming personality and you're not even walking yet.  I hope I never make you feel compared to your big sis, or lost in the shuffle of life around here.  I want to always recognize your individuality and celebrate you for the sparkling you that you are.  You are one-of-a-kind.  There is no one in the whole world like you.

Jocelyn, my darling daughter.  You were my first mini Valentine, and I will always hold that special place for you in my heart.  Sometimes it's scary how much you look up to me.  You want to be just like me, but sometimes I'm not altogether sure if I want that.  I want the very best for you, and so often I am just not that.  But that is the beautiful part of the way you see me.....you see the me that I want to be.  And every day, your love makes me grow just a little bit more, and change just a little more into the person I want most to be.

And last but certainly, definitely not least, my man.  Where would I be without you?  Certainly not here, in this home, with these daughters to be mama to, and with this life to call my own.

I see how these girls adore you, and I can't blame them.  You are their hero already, you know.   From now on, until their wedding day, any boy/man that comes into their lives they will compare to you.  You are their first love, their protector, their leader.....Daddy.

You work so hard for us.  Even when it's rainy outside, and you're fighting a cold and sleep-deprived, you just keep working.  I don't tell you thank-you enough, but I guess today is the perfect day to say just that.
Thank-you for providing for us.  Tirelessly, constantly providing.

Thank-you for clocking in and out, day after day, and for that matter, staying on the clock even long after you've left work, helping with the girls and the dishes and the daily grind.  We just simply couldn't do it without you.

We're all pretty tickled that you're the man in our lives.

The world is a much sweeter place because of the three of you.  And I'm just so glad I get to be a part of it all.

I am one, lucky duck.

  2. What a wonderful photographer, writer, and most important of all,Mother and Wife! I so enjoy your pictures, and writings Shelley, but most of all the investment of time and energy I see you putting into those girls, that's the recipe for some well balanced sweet girls as they grow. Keep up the good work, and thanks for sharing those precious little girls with me.
