Happy birthday, baby brother.
10:44 AMToday is my brother's birthday.
(He is the one there on the far left, with two of his close friends. And yes, he is about as much of an interesting character as it appears. Oh and I stole these pictures off of his facebook, in full disclosure.)
Shawn, now 24, is many, many things. Some of those things are:
1. Adventurous, fun-loving, and lover of meat and guns. You won't meet a guy who is more life-of-the-party than this one.
2. Brave and courageous. Dinosaur taming? Living in a trailer down by the river that frequently floods? Need I say more?
3. A very expressive, skilled, and gifted singer. Plays guitar as well. Should have a part-time job as a member of one of those barbershop quartets that sings surprise valentines to people.
4. Celiac and completely gluten-free. Don't let the cupcake fool you, it was probably made with tapioca flour or something. That's one thing about this guy, he religiously follows his GF diet restrictions and does not cheat. His diabetic restrictions however........psssshhhh. Who's got time for those?
5. A beloved uncle. You should see these kids swarm him when he comes out for a visit. The poor guy hardly gets a chance to breathe his own air, much less any sort of personal bubble space.
6. Amish. O.k. just kidding about that one.
7. Victim of a sordid love affair with facial hair. Sometimes it loves him back, other times not so much.
8. A beloved cousin. We all share the same great taste in movies, so you can only imagine the epic film-watching marathons that took place when we were all together.
10. And last but not least, he is currently single. You don't wanna miss this rare opportunity ladies, you can locate my e-mail on the "contact me" page and you can send your application there for further review.;)
In all seriousness, I appreciate this unique, genuine, one-of-a-kind, brother of mine. He is many things indeed, but one thing he will never, ever be is dull and uninteresting. He is a Graber to the core, lover of cars and speed and the mechanics of just about anything. He never meets a stranger, can talk for hours to anyone, and inherited his excellency for storytelling from his father, his father's father, and perhaps even several generations before that. Speaking of storytelling, he's an amazing writer, and blogs over here, at Momentary Logic. He loves Jesus and has plugged in to our church back home and it is so neat to watch him using his gifts there to bless others.
I am sad that I didn't always appreciate him for the way he was, or be the big sister I should have been growing up. But I'm a firm believer in "better-late-than-never". I can't wait to see where God will take him in this life, I just know he will go far and do well.
Happy birthday, big little bro.
