Life lately in Instas.

4:29 PM

Time for another instagram round-up. I think I will be doing these fairly regularly because hands down, it is the easiest way to do photos.  But you gotta help me out here, what should I call them?  Instalife?  Latergrams? Life lately, according to my iPhone?  That one is already taken.

Anything I can even think of is cheesy and weird, so I'm gonna let my brilliant readers come up with one this time and wow me.  :)

I feel like I have hardly taken pictures lately because we've all been taking turns being sick with the nasal-nastiness known as the common cold around here....and when you're hacking and sneezing and snotty and coughing you really don't want to put your poor kiddos through the trial of pictures.  But I'm DETERMINED to get some good ones soon and do their updates.  I'm afraid I basically skipped one month of Charlotte's somewhere, and I never do Jocelyn's anymore since I trail off after they turn one....#momfail

Anyway, here are a few glimpses of life from the past week or so.

Charlotte with her friend Judah, who is just a mere week or two older....I think. I forget how  much exactly.  And he has a brother Matthias who is just a few days younger than Jocelyn.

It's getting a little harder on the girls when we go out for the evening. I hate it.  They used to not even seem to mind, and now they do.  It's impossible for me to leave if they're crying, so that makes for some very drug-out exits at times.

Actually got the bike cart out the other day for a brief little jaunt, and my girls looked so grown up sitting in there!!!
We had a full day Sunday.  Went to church in the morning, Randy taught Sunday school then had a meeting afterwards, we had company over for lunch and then we went early to church in the evening to plan youth activities.  During our meeting the kids decided they weren't going to let their parents have all the fun and had a meeting of their own.  :)

The girls and I wore pink because, obviously, it is almost Valentines Day.  Here's one of the poor tired little cupids.

In other news, a dear reader commented recently, ".....And now I'm also thinking to myself, "Please, please, please figure out a way to post more often." I know you used to struggle with that, but you're making it work now. What have you done to make posting happen?"

Oh my.

Well, after my break I was doing really great for a while, and then we all took turns having a nasty cold and posting went out the window for a bit.  So I feel a little silly answering the question now, when I'm not doing so great.  But back when I was posting more often, my answer to that inquiry would be, "I TOOK A BREAK."   Honestly that break I took in December was one of the best things I've done for my blog. I was able to clear my head, re-gain my footing, gather some vision for what I want for my blog, and fall in love with writing all over again.

But I'll warn you, a break will probably be the best thing you ever decide to do for you, but maybe not so much for your blog.  I lost a little over 13,000 readers by taking that little break.  Hopefully not for forever, but seemingly, for now.  But fortunately, the break also taught me that it is not all about numbers.  It is not all about driving those little lines on the bar graph higher and higher.  Although that is fun, and any blogger who is honest will admit that they enjoy watching their readers grow, it is just not all about that.

So, I guess that would be my answer.  But that is just MY answer, and it may not be for everyone.  Not everyone needs a break.  Maybe for some people, a break would kill their desire completely, instead of revive it, and they wouldn't ever go back.  And that would be sad.  Because even if you think "no one reads my blog"  (which isn't true) I still think it's worth blogging for yourself and your loved ones.  It is a live journal of sorts, that forces you to sit down in your busy lifetime and take a moment, write your thoughts down about that moment, throw in a few pictures of the moment, and freeze it all together forever on a blog page.  Yes, I know you can do that without having a blog, it's called scrapbooking.  But if you're anything like me, and you waited to preserve those memories until you scrapbooked them, you would still be working on preserving your high school graduation.  Which for me, was 10 years ago.  Yikes, yikes, yikes.

So all that goes to say.....I don't know what, exactly.....blog more? Take a break?  Don't ever start blogging because then you'll realize how much of a part of you it is and that you could never really go back to not blogging?  Who knows.  I'm gonna go out on a giant, awkward, cliche limb here and say,

Follow your heart.

Ug, I can honestly barely even say that it is so awfully cliche.  But to some extent it is true.  What do you WANT to be doing?  Is it driving you crazy and you can't breathe and you really want to scratch your eyeballs out when you even think about posting?  Take a break.  Are you restless at night because your mind won't stop running 100 m/p/h and you have all these thoughts and feelings rattling around in their cages with no place to go?  Write more.

The choice is yours, my friend.

  3. I know it's hard to leave them crying, but if you make a quick clean break it could actually be easier on them. Just tell whoever is babysitting that they HAVE to let you know that they are doing fine! My little girl was seriously mommy-centered for a looong time. It made leaving difficult and believe me, I thought twice, and thrice, about who I left her with. And how long. And how often. And would she have to sleep while I was gone.... This too is a phase and it will pass. I'm so glad you are writing more again! I enjoy it.

  4. Every time I think of Instagram, I think of this comic:

As for a catchy header for your Instagram updates, you shall call them your Daily Hieroglyphs, since 1) Instagram automatically makes photos look old, and 2) you're preserving stories in photo form, like the Egyptians did.

Also, it was good for me to be reminded that blogging isn't just about the numbers of readers, because I get caught up in that too easily.
