Failing blogtember, facebook rants and greased pigs.

8:25 PM

O.k. O.k. so I'm failing blogtember.  And in the home stretch too.  Oh well.  No time like the present to do a little catching up.

Wednesday, September 25: Write about a time you screwed up - a mistake you made.

Well......let's just keep this short and sweet and say that I have made lots of mistakes.  Most of them involving people.  Some of them involving misunderstandings, miscommunications and words I shouldn't have said.  Some of them involving selfishness.  Some of them revolving around jealousy issues.  Some of them rooting all the way back to my own deep, dark, insecurities.  Some of them turned out to be "good mistakes" because they helped me to grow.  Change.  Learn.  Become a little more of the person I want to be.  And I like to think that I am making those types of mistakes less and less often these days.

Thursday, September 26: Go to a coffee shop. Order a favorite drink. Write about what makes you happy and what makes you sad. Or write about anything you'd like! Bonus points for including a photo from the coffee shop. (I recommend downloading Ommwriter and bringing headphones along!) *if you can't make it to a coffee shop, at least leave your usual space and write someplace new.

Coffee shop? HA.  Life has gotten crazy lately, what with the canning and the babies with colds and the subsequent sleepless nights, and the cleaning and baking and preparations for overnight  guests.......and there is just no way, no how that lounging in a coffee shop is even anywhere close to a reality right now.  I'm writing in the bathroom while leaning against the wall watching my girlies take their nightly bath, does that count as someplace new?

So, what makes me happy and what makes me sad.  Well, Jocelyn peeing all over our furniture makes me very, very sad.  Like I am failing potty-training right along with her.  When Randy gives me a foot rub, out of the blue, for no apparent reason, it makes me very happy.  How was that for deep and profound?  O.k. no, seriously.  It makes me happy when I can just for a moment, get a big picture view....a kingdom perspective, and realize how small and tiny and insignificant all of my worries/troubles are.  That makes me very happy.  It makes me sad when I don't do that.

Friday, September 27: An anonymous letter to your Facebook friends. Be as snarky as you'd like. (but don't include people's real names.)

Oh this should be good.....First off, let's just start with a little Scripture, shall we???

"A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a quarrel." -Proverbs 15:18

"The proud in soul stirs up strife, but he who is trusting on Jehovah shall be abundantly satisfied." -Proverbs 28:25

I just hate it when people toss something inflammatory, controversial, borderline crazy beans, or just plain completely offensive out there on facebook, and then sit back and watch the feeding frenzy.  I read somewhere that people starting out a facebook status saying, "Now, I don't be to start a controversy but......"  is like joining a street gang and then saying, "Now look, I don't want any trouble here....."  It's just sheer lunacy.

The only thing I don't understand is where it all stems from.  Is it plain contempt for their fellow man?  Is it pride?  Is it vanity?  Is it crying out for attention?  Is it grasping at straws to fulfill a deficit of attention in their lives?  Is it a pitiful attempt at acceptance?  I just don't understand that part.  Maybe some of you can help me out on that one.  ;)

O.k. I think that catches me up.  And since no blog post is complete without a picture or two, I will leave you with a few photos of our Heritage Day, held annually at our church.  Completely random and three whole weeks ago I know, but I finally got them off of my camera and so I wanted to share.

First of all, instead of a giant sand box, there is a giant wheat pit.  How COOL is that? The kids love it.  And speaking of kids, that is one of my favorite aspects of our church.  There are lots and lots of KIDS.  Over 70, actually.  And I for one, love it when I feel like I am raising my littles right alongside everyone else.  That I am not alone in the trenches of parenthood.  We're all in this together!

Greased pig contest.  And the prize?  The pig you caught!  So tempting. I want some home-raised pork! But not quite enough to make me get in there.

This unlucky guy got the honor of being our dinner.   And he was delicious.

It's Friday night people, put the kids to bed and go have some fun.

  1. I don't know Shelley Sometimes people write about controversial things because it's something they are passionate about or feel the Lord wants them to share. Sometimes they care too much...they care about what's happening around them, and fear how it may affect the lives of those they love. Others enjoy a good healthy debate, and like what they can learn from it. My dad used to debate the other side of the issue for us kids growing up even if he agreed with us. Because he wanted us to see that a lot of times there is something to be learned from the other side. As for that coffee shop break I hope you get one soon! I know how it can be much needed break in the life of a busy mom. You are a great mom!
